Friends of Carroll Park will be collecting non-perishable items to donate to hungry neighbors through the amazing group City Harvest this holiday season. The discussion should prove equally relevant for those interested in Cobble Hill and Gowanus\, with both areas facing coming change. \nThis event is free of charge. \nMore from the Gowanus Canal Conservancy: \nAs part of Mayor de Blasio’s Housing Plan\, he is proposing to rezone 15 neighborhoods across the city for greater residential density (upzoning). This panel discussion will explore how new urban density could affect the social and physical landscapes in which it occurs. We will look at neighborhood density from three perspectives: city-wide analysis\, community advocacy and planning\, and site-level design. \nModerator:  \nLeah Wener\, Central Park Conservancy \nPanelists: \nEric Stern\, NYU Furman Center for Real Estate and Social Policy \nHayes & James Slade\, Slade Architecture \nMichelle de la Uz\, Fifth Avenue Committee \nBios: \nEric Stern  \nEric Stern is a Policy Research Fellow at the NYU Furman Center. He previously served as a Senior Policy Analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York focusing on housing\, small business\, public finance\, and catastrophic risk. While at the Fed\, he was seconded to the New York City Mayor’s Office to contribute to the housing plan. Before joining the Fed\, he provided research assistance at the New York City Council\, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York\, and the NYU Institute for Education & Social Policy. On Manhattan Community Board Five\, he chairs the Land Use Committee. He received his A.B. from Princeton University where he concentrated in the Woodrow Wilson School Public & International Affairs. \nHayes & James Slade \nHayes Slade AIA\, IIDA and James Slade FAIA\, IIDA\, LEED-AP co-founded Slade Architecture in 2002. Their work has been exhibited at MoMA\, the National Building Museum\, Deutsches Architekturmuseum\, the Swiss Institute\, the Architecture League of New York\, AIA Center for Architecture\, the Venice Biennale and other venues.  Hayes is a licensed architect with a BS and Masters in structural engineering from Cornell and an MBA from Wharton\, and James has a BA from Cornell University and an MArch from Columbia University. \nMichelle de la Uz  \nMichelle de la Uz is the Executive Director of Fifth Avenue Committee\, Inc. (FAC). She has over twenty five years of experience in public and community service including being the Program Director for the Center for Urban Community Services and Congresswoman Nydia Velázqueź first Director of Constituent Services. Michelle oversees the organization’s mission and comprehensive programs serving more than 5\,500 low‐ and moderate‐income people.
