SUMMARY:A Denser Gotham: Upzoning and Neighborhood Change
DESCRIPTION:Join the Gowanus Canal Conservancy for the next of their Urban Ecology Lecture Series about upzoning and neighborhood change. The discussion should prove equally relevant for those interested in Cobble Hill and Gowanus\, with both areas facing coming change. \nThis event is free of charge. \nMore from the Gowanus Canal Conservancy: \nAs part of Mayor de Blasio’s Housing Plan\, he is proposing to rezone 15 neighborhoods across the city for greater residential density (upzoning). This panel discussion will explore how new urban density could affect the social and physical landscapes in which it occurs. We will look at neighborhood density from three perspectives: city-wide analysis\, community advocacy and planning\, and site-level design. \nModerator:  \nLeah Wener\, Central Park Conservancy \nPanelists: \nEric Stern\, NYU Furman Center for Real Estate and Social Policy \nHayes & James Slade\, Slade Architecture \nMichelle de la Uz\, Fifth Avenue Committee \nBios: \nEric Stern  \nEric Stern is a Policy Research Fellow at the NYU Furman Center. On Manhattan Community Board Five\, he chairs the Land Use Committee. He received his A.B. from Princeton University where he concentrated in the Woodrow Wilson School Public & International Affairs. \nHayes & James Slade \nHayes Slade AIA\, IIDA and James Slade FAIA\, IIDA\, LEED-AP co-founded Slade Architecture in 2002.
