This will be her second term serving on the board. Previously\, she was the Communications Director of the CHA during the turbulent era when the organization fought to preserve the Long Island College Hospital. In her other life\, she is a writer and co-founder/editor of the online literary magazine http://www.dorothyparkersashes.com\, as well as the author of a novel and numerous magazine articles at publications such as Vogue (contributing editor for 20 years)\, The New Yorker\, The NY Times and many other publications which have all since bitten the dust. She raised two children and two dogs in Cobble Hill and now splits her time with her husband between a home in Northern Westchester and Cobble Hill.\n \nDirector\, Candidates for Three-Year Terms\n \nChloe Domergue\n \nChloe moved to Cobble Hill 2021\, after a decade in Manhattan. She immediately fell in love with the neighborhood and its community. Chloe grew up in France and moved to the US 15 years ago. Chloe recently joined the Cobble Hill Association and is excited to bring her problem-solving mindset and passion to contribute to this incredible neighborhood.\n \nKatharina Gadow*\n \n\nKatharina Gadow has lived in NY for almost 12 years\, originally from Minnesota. Living in Kensington before Cobble Hill\, she has now lived in the area for about four years and would consider it a dream come true to get a Little Free Library in the neighborhood! Working in book publishing\, Katharina is a graduate of UW Madison and has her masters from NYU. She is passionate about access to books\, literacy\, and eliminating book deserts. When she isn’t reading in any spare moment she has with a cup of tea and her rescue kitty\, Matthew\, you can find her browsing the stalls at the farmers market by Borough Hall\, shopping at Books are Magic\, or watching the sail boats at Brooklyn Bridge Park. She has served one year on the CHA and is looking forward to more ! \n\nAlice Peterson*\n \nAllie has lived in Brooklyn for nine years\, moving with her husband\, two children\, and dog from Brooklyn Heights to Cobble Hill in August of 2020. Allie runs a marketing consultancy focusing on brand partnership across a variety of industries (CPG\, tech\, fitness). Her main interests include pedestrian safety\, increasing green spaces\, and historic preservation. In her free time\, you can find Allie sitting on her stoop (or a neighbor’s stoop) and spending time with her kids in Cobble Hill Park.\n \nTom Walsh\n \nTom and his spouse\, Rhonda\, have lived in the BoCoCa area since 2007\, and moved to Cobble Hill in 2010 as their first child was about to be born.  They are raising their family—three kids (ages 5\, 10 and 12) and an energetic puppy—in Cobble Hill because they love the community\, from the day-to-day pleasures of seeing friends and familiar faces outside PS29 and walking the neighborhood\, to the special events like the Halloween Parade in Cobble Hill Park and annual block parties.  When Tom is not in Cobble Hill\, he often can be found in Manhattan\, where he practices international arbitration at a global law firm\, or hiking or skiing upstate.  Before attending law school\, Tom worked for a conservation group in Ecuador from 2000 to 2003.  Tom is looking forward to becoming more involved with the CHA and its safety\, schools and trees (watch out lantern flies) committees\, among others.

SUMMARY:Blue & Yellow Playground (Henry Park 1) Redesign Community Input Session #1
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for the first step in the community engagement process around the redesign of Henry Park I (Henry Street and Pacific Street).  Madison Realty Capital is hosting a community engagement meeting to facilitate new ideas for the playground. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard. Children are welcome! \nWhile the actual construction won’t take place for at least three years\, the meetings over the next few months will result in the final design. If you’re new to this newsletter or neighborhood\, you might have a few questions about why this is happening. We’ve tried to answer a few potential questions below. Please feel free to email us at cha@cobblehill.nyc with any additional questions. \nPlease fill out this Attendance Tracker so the organizers know how many people to expect. And don’t forget to use the links at the bottom of the page to save to your calendar! \n(1) Why is this happening now? \nMadison Realty Capital plans to start construction on the 36-story condo building at 91 Pacific Street within the next 6 months. For safety reasons\, the Department of Buildings has determined that about 6 months after construction starts\, the Blue & Yellow Playground must close. Madison anticipates that closure will last for approximately 30 months\, and intends to perform all of the work related to the maintenance and re-design of the playground during that time.     \n  \n(2) What role does the Cobble Hill Association play in all of this?  \nAs with everything related to the re-development of the former LICH site\, our job is to advocate for the community. We can’t control what the buildings look like or how long closures last\, but we can make sure all rules and regulations are being followed and work with the developers and City agencies to minimize community disruptions. While we do not control the final design\, the CHA is working hand-in-hand with Madison Realty Capital and the Parks Department to ensure optimal community engagement. This means making sure you know about meetings and making sure your feedback is being incorporated into the proposals.   \n  \n(3) Why is Madison Realty Capital involved?   \nThe Blue & Yellow Playground is what is known in the City as a Privately Owned Public Space (POP). This means that\, like all City parks\, it is open to the public. However\, a private entity is responsible for maintenance. That entity used to be Long Island College Hospital. Then it was Fortis. Now it is Madison Realty Capital. One day in the future\, it will be some combination of the condo boards of the new buildings being constructed.  \n  \n(4) I love this playground as is. Why are we re-designing it? \nThe sub-structure is crumbling and needs to be replaced. That means all of the equipment has to come down. You can come to the meeting and suggest a similar structure be put up in its place\, but the existing one will have to go.

SUMMARY:Music in the Park - Andrea Wolper Trio
DESCRIPTION:An audacious artist [who] flouts genre limitations\, singing songs for the love of it and delivering an inventive\, thrilling\, appealing musical vision\,” vocalist and songwriter Andrea Wolper works “in a milieu that begins with jazz and reaches out to embrace an expressive area that is uniquely her own.” Living on the border of Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill for more than 20 years\, Andrea appears in New York clubs (The Blue Note\, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola\, Mezzrow\, 55 Bar\, to name a few)\, and tours in the U.S. and beyond. One of the “great jazz singers” in Scott Yanow’s book\, “The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide” (Back Beat Books)\, Andrea’s recordings as both leader and side person have been on many best-of-year lists\, and Cadence Magazine calls her “easily superior…in the singer/songwriter category.” Andrea will appear at Music in the Park with her longtime trio featuring guitarist Michael Howell and bassist Ken Filiano (also a local—and Andrea’s husband!). “Highly recommended for anyone who believes in the timeless essence of cool. \nwww.andreawolper.com
