Ah, Spring! As it springs inexorably forward, we are approaching CHA Membership Renewal Time, which occurs every year in May.
Please take a moment right now to renew your CHA membership here.
We also ask you to consider nominating yourself to be an officer of the Cobble Hill Association. Every other May we elect a new Executive Board, consisting of seven officers, to a two-year term. Joining the board is a great way to meet your neighbors and have an impact on your community.
The officer positions are: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Membership Secretary and Treasurer.
All positions are open; however, current president Amy Breedlove would like to continue as president for another two-year term, and current recording secretary Bennette Kramer would like to continue on the board as first vice president. For a description of each position, please refer to the CHA Bylaws or contact us.
To be eligible, you must:
- Live within the boundary of Cobble Hill, bounded by Atlantic Avenue, Court Street, DeGraw Street, and Hicks Street.
- Be a current member of the CHA.
- Submit a resume or CV of your work or civic accomplishments
- Submit a brief statement as to why you want to be involved and what you can contribute to the mission of the CHA.
To be considered for an officer position, please submit your CV and statement to
CHA@CobbleHill.nyc by April 13, 2018. (Please note: the original deadline has now been extended to April 13.)
CHA officers are selected as follows:
- The Board appoints a seven-member Nominating Committee of past officers, longtime residents and engaged neighbors.
- The Nominating Committee meets in March and April to interview and nominate a slate of seven officers.
- The Board emails the CHA membership about this slate at least 15 days prior to the Annual Spring Meeting in May (date to be determined).
- The Nominating Committee presents its slate of officers at the Annual Spring Meeting. Additional nominations may be made from the floor. The CHA members present (not by proxy) at this meeting vote to elect one candidate for each officer position.
- The new Executive Board, takes office at the conclusion of the Annual Spring Meeting.
We are especially looking for people with the following skills and interests:
- Transportation knowledge or interest: Think BQE rehab and LICH campus development to the DOT initiatives in the neighborhood.
- Outreach, donor relations, fundraising and philanthropy: Think more members, programs and funding.
- Digital media and communications: Think website, social media and communications platforms to help spread the word and grow the membership/organization.
- Development and planning: Think of the development on the LICH campus.
- Accounting or finance for non-profits: We use Quickbooks and Square and other financial transaction applications, and we file taxes for both the CHA and the Cobble Hill Community Fund.
If you don’t want to be an officer, but do want to become involved, we’d love to hear from you. You can join the CHA Parks Committee and help spruce up the park, attend local meetings on CHA’s behalf, collaborate with your neighbors on setting up fun social activities and much more. Email us atCHA@CobbleHill.nyc
Finally, we would like to thank our retiring board members who have contributed so much to Cobble Hill and the CHA over the last two years. They are stepping down because they are moving from the neighborhood or are pursuing personal and professional endeavors. We thank them, on behalf of this entire community, and wish them the best. They are: Michael Epstein – First Vice President, George Sanchez – Second Vice President, Susan Mulcahy – Corresponding Secretary, Leslie Cohen – Membership Secretary, Charles “Chip” McEnhill – Treasurer.
Contact us if you would like a copy of the job descriptions as they appear in the bylaws.
Warmly,
The Cobble Hill Association and the 2018 CHA Nominating Committee
