CHA New Board Interviews Underway

Do you want to serve on the board? We would love to have you!

According to the bylaws of the CHA, a new board consisting of seven members must be elected every two years. Given the extraordinary times we are in, this year’s election was postponed but now it’s time to get back to work. If you live in the neighborhood, you are eligible to run for a position in this extraordinary civic organization.

If you have attended a summer concert in the park, marched in the Halloween parade or sung with opera singers during the holidays, you have seen the public face of what we do. Behind the scenes, the officers of the organization advocate vigorously for the neighborhood with elected officials, city agencies, real estate developers and others.

The accomplishments of the CHA and its many volunteers are a crucial part of what makes this neighborhood so special. We are a protected historic district, enjoy a lovely park on Congress street and two childrens’ parks on Henry street all because of the CHA. Today’s challenges with the redevelopment of the Long Island hospital site, the rehabilitation of the BQE and the uncertain future of the Columbia Street shipyard, mean the work of the organization is as important as ever. Without representation by an organized citizenry, a community is powerless to shape its future. Our effectiveness comes from the involvement of our members, so please consider taking this moment to become part of history.

A term lasts two years and several positions are available. For a description of positions and membership requirements, see www.CobbleHill.nyc. If you are interested in running, send your name, contact details and a brief description of your background and interests to chanominations@gmail.com.
