Join the CHA Board!

The Cobble Hill Association (CHA) is now accepting expressions of interest from neighbors who would like to serve on the CHA Board.

We are pleased to announce that the following CHA members will serve on this year’s Nominating Committee: Karin Pavese & Susan Harris (co-chairs), Jerry Armer, Clara Bingham, Susan Mulcahy, Liz Velikonja, and Josh Vogel. The Committee is tasked with interviewing candidates for the next Board, which will be voted on at our Annual Meeting in May (date TBD).

Open Positions

  • Three (3) Directors, serving three-year terms
  • One (1) President, to serve the remaining two years of the current term
  • One (1) Treasurer, to serve the remaining two years of the current term

Current Directors may apply for either role, but this is an open process. We encourage neighbors with a wide range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives to apply. Whether you bring specific expertise or simply a commitment to Cobble Hill, your participation matters. The only absolute requirement is that you live within the boundaries of the Cobble Hill Historic District.

How to Apply

To express interest, please complete the interest form by April 10th.
If you have questions, you may contact the Nominating Committee at NomComm@cobblehill.nyc.

What does the CHA Board do?

The CHA Board is a volunteer, working board that serves as a civic backbone for the neighborhood.

Board members focus on:

  • Everyday quality-of-life issues such as street safety, sanitation, traffic, rats, parks, and public space stewardship
  • Longer-term advocacy on major infrastructure and land-use matters, including the BQE and large redevelopment projects
  • Supporting community traditions and events
  • Stewarding Cobble Hill Park, Cobble Hill Dog Park, and our street trees
  • Working closely with City agencies and elected officials
  • Communicating neighborhood news and updates with thousands of neighbors through newsletters and social media

Much of this work happens behind the scenes: following up with agencies, coordinating volunteers and committees, translating complex processes, and keeping the organization running smoothly.

In short, the CHA Board helps Cobble Hill remain a livable, connected, and engaged community.

Time Commitment

  • Directors: Directors participate in discussions and decisions about neighborhood issues, support the work of CHA committees and initiatives, and help represent the Association in the community. With 11 Board members, responsibilities are shared and schedules are flexible.
    • Time commitment: One hour Board meeting once a month, plus an additional 2–4 hours per month outside of meetings, depending on ongoing issues and interests.
  • President: The President helps set priorities, coordinates Board work, serves as a primary point of contact with agencies and elected officials, and supports the overall functioning of the organization. The role is collaborative and supported by the full Board.
    • Time commitment: The time commitment averages 2–4 hours per week, though it can fluctuate depending on circumstances and major projects.
  • Treasurer: In addition to the responsibilities of a Director, the Treasurer serves as the Association’s chief financial officer. The Treasurer maintains the organization’s financial records, oversees all Association funds, processes payments and reimbursements, and ensures that tax and other required filings are completed. The Treasurer reports regularly to the Board and membership on the Association’s financial status and prepares the annual budget and financial reports required by law and by the bylaws.
    • Time commitment: The same as a Director plus an additional 1–2 hours per month.
    • *The role is supported by modern bookkeeping tools and does not require formal accounting training.
